How Does a Domestic Fire Sprinkler System Work?
With a 99% success rate, automatic Domestic Fire Sprinkler Systems are designed to deliver a certain amount of water to the seat of a fire at its early stages, to control, contain, and often extinguish it before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Service.
A Domestic Fire Sprinkler System consists of a network of pipes supplying water to sprinkler heads that operate individually during a fire when hot gases rise to the ceiling level. The sprinkler head has a thermal element, such as a temperature-sensitive glass bulb, that holds back a plug that, upon activation at 58-68°C, releases water from that single sprinkler at 40-70L/min.
Your sprinkler system can be concealed within the ceiling voids or wall cavities. A 68mm white decorative cover plate provides an aesthetically pleasing, discreet finish that aligns with other fixtures, such as lights and smoke detectors, without detracting from the painted or wood-grain ceiling.

Benefits of Domestic Fire Sprinklers
Domestic Fire Sprinklers can be installed to satisfy a number of building regulations and offer design freedoms to architects and builders, such as staircases opening onto open-plan living space, alternative means of escape provisions in accordance with Approved Document B, a lack of Fire Brigade access and turning circles, etc.
In dwellinghouses with two or more storeys (over 4.5m above ground level), a Fire Sprinkler System can be used as an option when an alternative escape route cannot be achieved. In some cases, it may be more cost-effective than installing an external fire escape or another protected stairway.
As an alternative approach to open living and loft conversion proposals, Fire Sprinkler Systems offer an easier option than addressing the full extent of the escape route, or installing new fire doors & partitions throughout, as well as enclosing the escape route, which detracts from the design intent.

What to Expect from Our Process
After an initial phone call and a review of any drawings sent, we will visit you and your property to provide an overview of your sprinkler protection, builders’ works, and our design and installation processes.
Your Sprinkler System will require a water supply, which is typically fed from a pump and tank arrangement when a town main supply isn’t adequate in size or available flow and pressure. These can be installed and tucked out of the way, under your staircase, in a closet, your garage or the attic, where the weight can be supported.
Once all pipework and valves are installed, we carry out pressure tests to check the system for leaks. When everything is satisfactory, we complete a water supply performance flow test, commission your new automatic fire sprinkler system, and give handover training and advice on what to do in an emergency.
